Jack Hool was a legendary coach at Assumption High School in both basketball and football. It was an institution he was well familiar with before he became a coach. Hool graduated from Assumption as a student and distinguished himself as an accomplished athlete.
Hool walked on in Ann Arbor to make both the basketball and football teams at the University of Michigan. While pro sports wasn’t in the cards, his time in sports was only just beginning. Hool shaped young athletes in basketball and football for nearly 30 years from 1958-1985.
Hool served as Assumption’s long time coach, athletic director and dean of students. His Purple Raider teams enjoyed outstanding success on the hardwood. The 1969, 1974 and 1984 teams won WSSA titles. SWOSSA titles were captured in 1967, 1968, 1969, 1974 and 1984. At provincial level (OFSSA), won titles in 1967 and 1969 and reached the semis in 1968 and 1974. His football teams won WSSA championships in 1960 and 1964.
He coached some of the city’s best in Sante Salvador, Norb Rammler, Dennis Smith, Vince Landry, Bruce Walker, his son Hunt Hool, Rob Biasutto and Carlo Boniferro.
After retiring from teaching, Hool moved back to Michigan where he and his wife grew up and served as an assistant basketball coach with Cass City high school for another 10 years.
Jack Hool’s legacy at Assumption is hefty and he now takes his well-earned place in the Windsor/Essex Sports Hall of Fame in the Builder category.
