ALBERT
MADY
ATHLETE
MARTIAL ARTS
CLASS OF 2016
Albert Mady was first introduced to the martial arts at the age of 10. Having shaped and guided the course of his life, Albert has received some of the highest accolades his sport has to offer as both a competitor and instructor, becoming the first Canadian to achieve a 9th degree black belt in Ku Dan Isshin-Ryu karate in 2006.
Born and raised in Windsor, Albert blossomed quickly, and soon competed against athletes twice his size and age. His list of accomplishments as a competitor are extensive and simply cannot be communicated in a biographical overview such as this. Suffice to say, he has won or placed at many of the most prestigious martial arts competitions in the world. Some of his notable accomplishments include the American Intern Light-Heavyweight Knock Down Champion and the 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994 North American Karate Breaking Champion.
Known world-wide for his abilities in breaking, Albert has been at the forefront of promoting this discipline on the world stage. In 1981, Albert opened his first school in Windsor, which remains in existence today, along with 18 affiliated schools across Canada. He has been honoured numerous times for his teaching talents and achievements in martial arts. In 2006 Albert was recognized by his induction into both the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame and the International Isshinryu Hall of Fame.
Albert Mady’s perseverance and drive helped him become a champion, not only in full contact and breaking, but also in traditional Kata and weapons competitions. He has since imparted his knowledge and skill to numerous students and helped make many of them champions. Having amassed an incredible record of accomplishments as both an athlete and instructor, Albert Mady deservedly enters the Windsor / Essex County Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 2016 induction class, in the Athlete category.
