MCCAFFERY

BUILDER

BASKETBALL

CLASS OF 2021

Basketball coach Chris McCaffery spread his 33-year high school coaching odyssey at four local high schools. A member of the University of Windsor provincial championship team in 1959, McCaffery started his teaching career at Patterson Collegiate before moving on to Herman (two stints), Kennedy and then Massey.

McCaffery was more than a basketball coach. When it came to the chess game on the basketball court, he could match his counterpart move for move. During those pressure filled games, McCaffery was particularly known for his calm presence on the court.

No matter where he roamed the sidelines, his high school cagers were winners but it can be argued that McCaffery had his greatest success at Herman. There, his Green Griffins won both WSSA & WECSSA four times (1980, 1981, 1983, 1986). McCaffery skillfully guided the Green Griffins to back-to-back OFSAA AAA basketball titles in 1979 and 1980. In 1986, he went on to coach the Kennedy Clippers to a City Championship.

This coach’s impact on four local high schools have earned Chris McCaffery an induction into the Windsor/Essex Sports Hall of Fame as a Builder.
