CLASS OF 2021

Ken Ouellette has been a fixture at F.J. Brennan Catholic High School for more than 50 years, coaching in shot put, javelin and discus alongside a career as a firefighter.

Over these years, Ouellette mentored and coached many athletes, both female and male, to successive city, regional and provincial titles. One year in particular, Ouellette had athletes in 4 of the 6 divisions attend OFSAA, where all the athletes received a medal. Under his tutelage, his athletes secured over 40 OFSAA medals, 21 of them being gold.

Among the most prominent of Ouellette’s athletes was Scott Russell – an Olympian and Canadian record holder in the javelin. Like many of the athletes he worked with, it was Ouellette who introduced Russell to the javelin.

When not on the athletic field, Ouellette could be found in the weight room generously spending countless hours further mentoring and coaching student athletes on the importance and value of strength training.

Aside from his guidance on throwing events, Ouellette added to his reputation by coaching the junior football team, leading his squad to 10 city WSSA titles. Ouellette, it must be mentioned, was also a very talented athlete in his own right. In the early-1970’s he was a member of the Windsor Warlocks national championship team in lacrosse.

For his role as the premier throw coach in Windsor, specialty javelin. Ken Ouellette is deservedly being inducted into the Windsor/Essex County Sports Hall of Fame as a Builder.
