Nick Panasiuk was an outstanding golf instructor and amateur golfer who owned Hydeaway Golf Club. He was the father of the Canadian Champion golfer Bob Panasiuk.

Panasiuk was born in Windsor on November 21, 1916. He attended Gordon McGregor Elementary School, which offered Grades 9 and 10 at the time, where he was a member of a WOSSA Junior Boys’ championship team.

Panasiuk began his long association with golf as a caddy at Lakewood Golf Club under Bill Fox, the club professional. He also worked at Beach Grove under pro Bob McKelvie. By the age of 11, Panasiuk was already a golfer of considerable talent; he finished as Low Medalist Champion at the Essex/Kent Boys Tournament.

Panasiuk was an accomplished amateur golfer in adulthood. He competed in the Canadian Open, the Red Run Open, the Western Open, and the Chicago World Tournament.

At the age of 12, Panasiuk famously communicated a desire to own a golf course. He accomplished this lifelong great at the ages of 44, when he purchased what would later become Hydeaway Golf Club.

As a teacher of golf, Panasiuk developed several outstanding local products. In particular, his son Bob became a Canadian Champion at the amateur and professional levels. In 1985, Audrey Bendick, Joye McAvoy, and Sandy Renaud, all three Panasiuk’s students, led Ontario to its sixth straight National Team Title, at New Minas, Nova Scotia. Each woman was awarded a golf scholarship at a major American university.

Nick Panasiuk passed away on July 25, 2009.
