Marc Reaume enjoyed a 17-year career in professional hockey, including nine National Hockey League seasons with Toronto, Detroit, Montreal, and Vancouver. In the American Hockey League, he played on two Calder Cup teams: Pittsburgh in 1954-55 and Rochester in 1967-8.

Reaume was born in LaSalle on February 7, 1934.

Reaume played both baseball and hockey throughout his youth. He was granted tryouts as a catcher by the Washington Senators and Pittsburgh Pirates, with the latter offering him a class “D” contract.

He also played in the Essex County Senior League for two years, one with River Canard and the other with Maidstone.

Reaume attended Assumption High School, where he learned to play as a defenceman under Father Ronald Cullen. As a youth, he suited up for Windsor’s East End Athletic Club in the Detroit Federation Class “A” League. He also played three seasons with St. Thomas in the Inter-County Sr. League, winning one title.

Out of school, Reaume played for St. Mike’s in the OHA between 1950 and 1954. In 1953-54, his final season at that level, he was selected as the OHA Jr. “A” Most Outstanding Defenceman.

Reaume strong play in the OHA propelled him to professional hockey, where he carved out a long and healthy career at the NHL, WHL, and AHL levels.

Reaume an AHL First-Team All-Star in 1962-63, when he was also named the league’s Most Outstanding Defenceman. In 1969-70, he repeated both feats at the WHL level. In between, he was a Second-Team All-Star in the CHL (1965-66) and AHL (1967-68).

Reaume’s post-OHA career began with the Toronto Maple Leafs, with which he was associated from 1954 until 1960. He also spent time with the AHL’s Pittsburgh Hornets during his time with the Leafs.Reaume was traded to the Detroit Red Wings during the 1959-60 season. In 1960-61, he split time between the Wings and AHL’s Hershey Bears before playing for the AHL club full-time for the next two seasons. In 1963-4, while still with the Bears, Reaume got three games with the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

Between 1964-65 and ’68-69, Reaume alternated between the CHL’s Tulsa Oilers and the AHL’s Rochester Americans.

Reaume joined the Vancouver Canucks, then playing in the WHL, in 1968-69. After playing for the club in that league for the 1969-70 season, Reaume stayed with the Canucks during their NHL expansion season in 1970-71. He also spent six games that year with the Rochester Americans in the AHL.

Reaume’s career was brought to its end by a serious automobile accident on January 24, 1971. Reaume sustained several injuries and was comatose for 84 days.

Reaume played a total of 365 games in the NHL. He finished his career with 8 goals, 45 assists, and 53 points. All in all, he participated in a staggering 1,186 games including regular season and playoff contests.
