Brad Snyder, a world-class shot putter, represented Canada at three Olympic Games. He was ranked as high as ninth in the world and held the Canadian record in his event at the time of his induction.

Snyder was born on January 8, 1976 in Windsor.

As a teenager, Snyder competed for St. Joseph High School and the Windsor Legion, where he first specialized in the shot put. During his youth, Snyder won gold medals at the OFSAA Championships, Canadian Junior Championships, and Junior Pan-Am Games.

Snyder accepted a full-ride athletic scholarship to the University of South Carolina. He attended USC from 1995 to ’99, becoming the school’s first athlete to win eight Southeastern Conference (SEC) track and field titles. He was named an All-American in seven out of his eight (including indoor and outdoor) competitive seasons. In 1998, Synder won gold at all 19 meets at which he competed. As a result, he was selected as the SEC Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Although shot put was his specialty, Snyder was also an accomplished discus thrower. He won a gold medal in both events at the SEC Championships.

A three-time NCAA individual champion, Snyder was inducted into the USC Sports Hall of Fame.

Snyder also enjoyed an illustrious career representing Canada. Most notably, he participated in the Olympic Games in 1996 (Atlanta), 2000 (Sydney), and 2004 (Athens).

Synder won the Olympic Trials in 1996. In 2001, perhaps his most successful season, he won gold medals at the Millrose Games, Bislett Games, Francophone Games, and Canadian Championships. During the same year, he placed eighth at the World Championships in Edmonton. He also captured the gold medal at the Sea Ray Relays, where he set a new Canadian record of 20.78 metres. His personal best was 20.86 metres.
