Lou Veres, cofounder of Southwestern Ontario Tennis Training, was a tireless servant to the sport of tennis. He inaugurated several important tennis competitions and programs in the Windsor-Essex area.

Veres was born on January 30, 1932 in Windsor.

A fine athlete in his day as a tennis and basketball player, Veres is today honoured for his later work as a promoter and volunteer for the sport of tennis. Notably, he coached several championship teams at Herman Collegiate Institute and Kennedy Collegiate Institute. He founded and convened the Optimist Club of Forest Glade/City of Windsor Tournament, the Optimist International Classic, and the Windsor/Essex County Elementary Schools Invitational.

Outside of the school system, Veres was the cofounder of Southwestern Ontario Tennis Training (SWOTT). He obtained critical sponsorships from Tim Hortons, McDonalds, and Pizza Hut in order to run the intense daily and year-round program for junior players. He was responsible for its day-to-day operations until 1996.

Over time, SWOTT became highly successful. A number of its players received provincial and national rankings in addition to scholarships to various universities. Scholarship athletes who played under Veres included Joanne Musgrove and Kara Delicata (University of Michigan), Peter Perez (Chicago), Yves Poirer (Montana), Naguid Shahid (Utah), and Talia Natyshak (Toledo).

Veres has received accolades from the Ontario Tennis Association, which recognizes his efforts in junior development.
