ATHLETE

BASKETBALL

CLASS OF 2025

Korissa Williams could always make an impact at both ends of the basketball court. The five-nine guard could regularly score in double figures and be a lock-down defender against an opposing star.

Williams, an Amherstburg native, was a mainstay in the back court as the University of Windsor Lancers went on a record-tying, five-year run as Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s basketball champions (2010-15).

As a fifth-year senior, Williams simply dominated the game during the 2014-15 season and was honored as the CIS female athlete-of-the-year. That season she was named an OUA and CIS first-team all-star. She was also named the defensive player of the year at both the OUA and CIS levels and capped a fifth national title with an MVP award at the championship tournament.

Williams, along with Lancer teammate Jocelyn LaRocque became the first players in CIS history to win five national championships.

At the 2013 CIS championship, Williams was named a tournament all-star and the tournament MVP.

In 2020, she, along with former UWindsor teammates Miah-Marie Langlois and Jessica Clemencon were named to the CIS top-100 players of the century.

Williams represented Team Canada three times at the World University Games (’11 in Chile, ’13 in Russia, ’15 in South Korea) and as team captain led Canada to its best-ever finish on that world stage with a silver medal in 2015.

A true leader, she also captained Canada’s Senior National B team in 2014.

Following graduation, Williams played professionally in Europe for one season.

Success on the hard court started in high school where Williams played for Hall of Fame coach Dom Silvaggio at General Amherst.

Williams won gold medals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) AA basketball championships (’07, ’08) and OFSAA silver in ’09 at the AA level and ’10 at the AAA level. She was a double winner in ’08 as part of Amherst’s OFSAA championship volleyball team.

She now joins Langlois (’24 class) and UWindsor coach Chantal Vallee (’24 class) as part of the 2025 class of inductees to the Windsor/Essex County Sports Hall of Fame.
